Perspex, stainless steel and nickel. Strength Totem - Night out with Nan’,’ is part of the Strength Totem series which reference local architecture and abstracted symbols as personal ‘totems’. Symbols in the Strength Totems reflect the solace and support I found in the local community. The totems are made of abstracted symbols that include diverse references to the Art Deco buildings of Ainslie School, Dr Seuss books, targets, cultural symbols for strength and family; and a handbag of Nanna’s (Nanna was also a single mother). I use bright colours and glittered perspex as material symbols of hope to create the relief totems.
